In Finding an Atari Mega STe, I noted that my monitor situation was less than ideal. I was using an original SM124 monochrome monitor, which I do like, but the screen area (and thus text size) is rather small for my aging eyes. I also needed a 2nd display of some kind for color so that I could play games.
Ideally I wanted an LCD that could do both monochrome and color, but LCDs that can drop down to 15khz horizontal refresh frequency are rare. Most newer ones only go down to about 30khz and older ones are getting hard to find.
Reader Siegfried noted in the comments that there was a recent thread on the AtariAge forums about someone how found an LCD that fits the bill. Even better, it was a current model LCD that was readily available.
I did some searching and found the thread on AtariAge and the monitor being described was the Dell SE2722H, a 27” LCD with HDMI and VGA inputs, which the OP purchased from MicroCenter. There is no MicroCenter around here, but a quick search of Amazon showed that they had the SE2722HX available. The extra “X” in the model concerned me as it doesn’t take much for different models to have different specs. For example, there is also a SE2422H (a 24” display, which probably would fit in my office better), but others on the forum thread indicated that that one did not work with color.
