Atari Connection became Atari Explorer in early 1985 to coincide with Winter CES and the announcement of the new Atari ST and XE computers.
First it was run in-house by Neil Harris and it certainly seemed like a “house organ” that only spoke the word of Atari. Its content was not very deep or detailed and its schedule was erratic.
But in 1986, Atari hired David Ahl of Creative Computing to take over the magazine. Shortly after that, a subsidiary was formed to run the magazine. This is when it really hit its stride.
