In 1986 everything was going right for the Atari ST. The Atari 1040ST had been announced earlier in the year and was selling well, along with the 520ST. Ads back then would advertise a monochrome 1040ST system for around $700, an absolute steal at the time for a full-features, 16-bit computer.
Even though Compute! magazine did not seem all that bullish on the Atari ST in their initial review from October 1985 (at least compared to the Amiga), by mid-1986 they had changed their tune: They announced a bimonthly magazine dedicated to the Atari ST!
It was called Compute!’s Atari ST Disk & Magazine (a mouthful, to be sure).
