Houston Area Atari Computer Enthusiasts Newsletter
Update Atari user group newsletter
While digging through a box of my Current Notes stuff, I came across a newsletter sent to me from the Houston Area Atari Computer Enthusiasts (HACE) back in 1995.
They sent me the September 1994 issue of Update Atari, a 12-page newsletter which has topics on MIDI, EditTrack Platinum, LDW Power, and the XSRAM column with news, rumors and opinions.
From the masthead:
HACE is the original Atari computer users group in the area.
Update Atari was created using PageStream v2.2 on an Atari 1040STe (4MB RAM) and a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 500.
It looks to me like you had to be a member of the user group to get a copy of the newsletter. At least, I don’t see a separate way to subscribe or any price shown anywhere.
It’s always fun to see and think about how these newsletters were made back then. About this time you did start to see some online ‘zines, which were usually just distributed as plain text with no formatting at all. As this was before the internet proper, there were no web sites or blogs, and relatively few people had online access.
Even at just 12 pages a newsletter like Update Atari would have taken a lot of work to produce. Not to mention the need to get it printed and then mailed out.
I’ve attached a PDF scan of the entire newsletter, HACE Update Atari, September 1994.
