Although I did enjoy playing text adventure games back in the 80s, I don’t recall many that I finished.

One that I remember liking, probably because I had recently read the book, was The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Infocom.

Unfortunately it was a notoriously difficult game and I never finished it.

I usually got further with the ones from magazine type-in listings because they were much smaller.

One of the best magazine text adventure games was Crash Dive! from ANALOG computing (April 1984). Most magazine text adventure games were written in BASIC, but this one was all machine language. Author Brian Moriarty would go on to work for Infocom.

Here is my map of the Crash Dive game, which you can see was not all that large:

Advent X-5 was a text adventure published in Antic magazine (Nov. 1984). This was created by JD Casten, a teenager that had a lot of games published by Antic. Here is my map (with notes) for it:

Another one was Treasures of Barboz also from ANALOG (Apr 1986). I don’t recall getting very far in this one, but I also made a map:
