Google Gemini: No, thanks.

The Register reports that Google Gemini declined to play a game of chess with the Atari 2600. Robert Caruso, who previously had the lowly 2600 play (and win) chess games with ChatGPT and Copilot, also tried the same thing with Gemini.

But after a bunch of boasts from Gemini and some replies from Caruso, Gemini politely declined the game when it realized it would also likely lose.

Although beating an LLM at chess is apparently not all that difficult, the Chess game on the Atari 2600 is still rather impressive.
