I’m not sure where I got this, but I have an Atari ST marketing brochure from 1987. I think it is rather interesting and worth a closer look. I didn’t write much about marketing in my Atari ST: What went wrong post, but looking at this brochure might give us a sense of how Atari thought it should be marketing the Atari ST.
Great write-up! I got this same brochure packaged with my XEGS when I got it for Christmas in 1987. That may explain your questions regarding Congratulations portion of this. I was too young to understand the differences between the XE and ST lines at the time. But had my parents had the money I could see the play being they got me the XE and would consider the ST for themselves after seeing that brochure.. Just a thought.
"I find it odd that the first paragraph seems to imply a purchase has been made. Why would anyone want a brochure if they’ve already purchased? Congratulations just seems weird here." This brochure was bundled in with every Atari video game console. So in fact a purchase had been made of an Atari product. This was designed to provide information to current Atari video game owners about Atari computers.
