Somewhat related to The Atari Compendium programming book, another book that came in late in the ST-era was Modern Atari System Software from HiSoft.

I don’t recall hearing anything about this book back in the early 90s, but perhaps it just was not commonly available here in the U.S.

Published in 1993, it covers newer hardware and software topics that had no obvious source of information elsewhere. In particular, it covers the Falcon030, its audio and DSP subsystems, GEMDOS/MiNT, AES enhancements and SpeedoGDOS. There are appendices for The Atari Style Guide, Object File Formats, The Cookie Jar and more.
